Disneyland

We took the grandkids and the younger kids to Disney today... oh, boy, is all I can say...
It was quite a job but we had fun! How can we not have fun at Disney? We only lost "one" kid during the day. Yes, you heard it right, just "one!" This boy has a hard time listening to direction.... I was happy to know that after he got lost he actually remembered what I told him about "if lost, find a worker." We found him next to the "Disney worker!" PTL , something sunk in!

The real reason for this post is to tell you that earlier this week, I read "A Holy Experience" and was convicted about memorizing scripture. In the past, I would pick a scripture and do it for a couple of days and then drop it. I don't really follow through with it...
But, after reading her post and listening to John Piper speak about it, I was cut to the core. So, yesterday morning, I decided to write the scripture on a paper and carry it around with me. Whenever I was in a line, everyone knows that there are lines at Disney, I would read it over and over. Sometimes out loud with the kids and sometimes to myself. The funny thing is that the kids memorized it before me. Not planning on it... it just happened. These little minds are sponges. They will soak up whatever you put in them. So, the question is, what are you putting in these little minds that God has graciously given you for a short time?

This job of mine, mommy and grandma, is a ministry. It is not to be taken lightly... It is a high calling from Jesus Himself. Make the most of every opportunity you have to teach them about Jesus. To love on them and to show them Jesus in action!

Here a couple pics from the day...
as well as the scripture that "we" memorized!

Blessings,
Kim

  1. That is such a good idea!!! Also, love that you were memorizing a verse about patience and applying it while waiting in line...

  3. What a fun time!!...except the losing a kid part. It happens.

So true about them being sponges. I can't believe how much my 3yo can take in each week. She does memorize a verse each week, not short ones, stuff like Matthew 5:16. Humbles me and challenges me.

  4. Looks like it was a fabulous day! And what a great idea-carrying scripture verse and reading in lines. There's lines everywhere. I may have to adopt your idea.

  5. Thanks for sharing this Kim. I really need to get back to scripture memorization. I keep a 3x5 spiral in my kitchen window, right above my sink. That way, I can look at it every time I'm at the sink (which is a lot) and recite the scripture I'm working on.

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun, despite losing a kid. :) We're planning on taking our family Fall of 2012. That way, my youngest will be almost six, and my oldest will be eleven.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  6. Disney is so fun! We are going to spend Thanksgiving week at DisneyWorld as a Christmas treat from my in-laws! Should be fun.

We have little 3 by 5 cards all over the house with scripture either the kids or I are memorizing. It really does make a HUGE difference to have those words hidden in your heart!

    Have a great weekend!
